Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) began in 1969 when local Muslim families gathered together for prayer at a small house in the Medical Center. From this tiny group our community has grown to include 19 masajid across greater Houston making us the largest Islamic Society in North America. Thanks to our dedicated members, our community has grown significantly over the years.

Our community has been blessed with generations of little ones and ISGH has been blessed to provide them with schools. Together ISGH has helped educate our youngsters through 6 fulltime schools teaching kids from pre-Kindergarten through high school. We also offer weekend education programs and classes for adults. Combined our schools educate 3500 students to lead our community into the future.
We are especially proud of our more than 150 students who have earned the title of Hafiz through our Qu’ranic memorization program.
We also care for our families in their time of need. ISGH offers comprehensive funeral services through two fully equipped funeral homes and dedicated Muslim cemeteries.
ISGH oversees Zakat, or charitable assistance, across the community. In 2012 we provided $60,000 a month to families across Houston. Through the community’s financial support we have donated to major international relief efforts during natural disasters and also to the needy right here in Houston.
Through the Shifa Clinics, ISGH has been healing the community one patient at a time through free medical care provided to all those who need it. The Shifa Clinics provide healthcare services ranging from ophthalmology, to dentistry to wellness exams and immunizations at 4 clinics across the region.
For over 40 years ISGH has been reaching out to welcome thousands of people to Islam through our Dawah programs. ISGH helps people discover our faith by sharing the Qu’ran and offering spiritual outreach. We are truly excited to help those new to our faith grow spiritually through our New Muslim Support Group.
Congregational prayer services are offered throughout the year at our masajids and we hold Eid Salat services twice yearly. We welcome you to join us for prayer and reflection.
It is in each of these ways – from birth to death – that ISGH is at the heart of Houston’s Muslim Community. ISGH operates through 5 primary “zones” across the area. Each zone has elected leadership that works to coordinate the activities and needs of the masajid in those areas.
